Myers Lodge Tentsite, Stratton/Flagstaff Area Camping

Heading up to Western Maine soon and looking for places to camp. Found, on my 2005 AMC Maine maps, Myers Lodge Tentsite. Location looks great for a nice look across the lake to the Bigelows. Anyone here know anything about it? Need a 4WD to get to it? Caretaker? Fee? Wildlife issues? Oversubscribed?

The latter looks unlikely, as I found very few hits for it via Google. Any advice on other area camping sites, preferably near or on Flagstaff Lake?

Cathedral Pines run by the town of Eustis is pretty much the standard for camping in the Eustis area. Its a traditional campground. The first and last VFTT Gathering as well one in between was held there.

The MFS campsites in the area that are car accessible get a lot of use by semi permanent campers. Don't expect to be alone and expect some partying. The Barn campsites on the other end of the lake is right on the lake but since its an unmanaged area the facilities can get abused. Unfortunately its quite a distance from the majority of the 4ks. If you do head over there make sure you figure out how to locate and use the carriage road south of the Bigelow Preserve. It saves about an hour of driving to get from one side of Bigelow to other.

There are a couple of attractive tentsites, with privvies, at Stratton Brook Pond at the trailhead of Fire Wardens Trail to the Bigelow Range. On the other side of Flagstaff Lake is one of the Maine Huts, with kayaks available and about 9 level miles east of that, along the Dead River and picturesque Grand Falls, there is another Maine Hut. There are also a couple primitive campsites along the east side of Flagstaff, where the view of Bigelow at sunset is memorable, that you can locate in DeLorme.

Our favorite restaurant in the area is the White Wolf Inn in Stratton. Orion and Luna, the namesake wolves, are gone. One died of natural causes and the other sadly euthanized for raiding a neighbor's rabbit hutch, but terrific photos remain. Just beware of a waitress in a leather apron.
