Another non profit giving it a go. Sorry to see the loss of their initial "hut".

Unfortunately without active caretakers like Maine Huts and Trail uses I suspect the "tragedy of the common" lead to the reason "why we cant keep anything nice". GMC huts apparently at one point were far nicer and better equipped but as use increased, amenities got removed and most are pretty rustic these days.
 
It will be very interesting to see how this progresses. I am personally a big fan of huts, so long as they are kept relatively cheap so that all can afford to enjoy them. And if this movement ultimately leads to more conservation areas with more trails, I'm all for it.

I just joined them as a member.

The RMC huts are, IMO, the template.

Can't believe someone would burn one.
 
Not the first "hut" to burn in VT. There was one on Mansfield a couple of years ago.
