I heard about this late but maybe some of you fitness buffs qualify for the missing days, the rest of us will see if we can win a ****y prize

Looks like you can hike in parks free anyway as long as you register for the challenge, some parks like Echo Lake and Wellington have a beach where you can take a dip afterward or you can kayak instead of hike (free does not include WMNF unfortunately)

If you have kids and a camera, you can also look into this - note that team registration is closed for 2012 but some features are open to anybody:

Unfortunately for this year, team registration has hit the max qouta- but those interested should keep an eye out for next year. Visit the website early in May for the registration period announcement. Regardless, the Self-Guided Quests can still be used by anyone for some fun outings, and many are at non-fee areas.

Thanks for posting this. I enjoyed a free hike of Monadnock this morning.

The Great Park Pursuit is apparently closed, but the info for the 90 Mile Challenge is still live on the state website. I would think that somebody who downloaded the form and learned in September that they were ineligible would not be a happy non-camper.
