I had an interesting day today that didn't go quite as planned. I successfully did a bushwhack hike to Niagara mountain, but had a couple mishaps along the way.
1st - I had to ford the Schroon River in knee deep water. I thought my 3 mil contractor grade garbage bags would do the trick to keep my feet and legs dry, but no such luck. the seams in the bags weren't quite water tight, and in the 1 minute it took to cross I got water in my boots. Dang it. Wet feet the rest of the day.
2nd - My backpack opened up while I was bushwhacking and I didn't realize it. I lost my sandwich, trail mix, one water and my favorite socks.
I spite of these mishaps, I managed to enjoy the summit of Niagara on a nice clear day. I did bag the thought of heading over to Nippletop though, since I had no food, less water and wet feet.
