Could I drive a non 4x drive car on Corey's Road, without problems, to the Seward's trailhead? PinPin and others have traveled the road and reported that it was in good condition but was he driving a Hummer or a VW bug :) . If anyone has been down the road recently would I have any problems with a non 4x drive car?

You might also want to consider besides driving there, gettin out :) I mean many cars can get around winter OK, but getting started when stopped can be tough. I had a rear wheel drive car that was pretty good in winter with snow tires and traction control, but that was once moving.

Good point, Jay. I've only driven it with 4WD and never had a problem, but once stopped to help a car that had gotten stuck on the way out. That was the day after a heavy snowfall. I haven't been to the ADK's in awhile, but adksteve recently posted THIS trip report that mentions that the road is very passable (as of last weekend).

Hope that helps.

If you are planning on going this weekend you might want to keep in mind that it is supposed to rain Thursday and Friday and then the temps are to drop down below 0. I would expect that this would make the road very icy.

Skating the three miles would be way cooler than driving it.

But driving would be soooooooo much fun. I've trudged that silly road too many times and cursed that gate each time. Think of the excitment! :)

I agree walking the road is no fun. Much rather drive, but if you could add a speed skating component to a hike that would be way cool, how often can you add a skate to a hike....

When I was up there four weeks ago, the only 2WD vehicle that made it in was a late model VW Beetle. Everything else at the trailhead was either a Subaru or a 4WD pickup. A front wheel drive minivan got about halfway in but had to turn around as it couldn't make it over the humps. I doubt that conditions have improved all that much

The Pin-Pin, Jr. Mobile happens a Subaru, BTW,
