It was a great day out in the woods! My husband asked me what I wanted to do for our anniversary....silly man should have thought before he asked that. Of course I said HIKE!!
We chose Sandwich Dome because of the elevation figuring it wouldn't be so bad considering we heard there was snow up north the past couple of days. We also figured it would be a nice hike for Matthew (our plan was to wear him out and then we could have some alone time...haha...note to self, 5 year olds have more energy and recover faster than we do. A quick cat nap in the car and he was ready to go by the time we got home)
The day was cool but nice. There was a spot on the way up Jennings Peak that was really cold but once you hit the top, it was sunny and nice! The river crossing was fine as was most of the trail. Fall is here and you definately have to pay a little more attention to the trail with all the leaves.
There were a couple of wet patches on the trail but nothing that wasn't easy to deal with. As we got nearer the top of Sandwich, there was a bit of snow covering. Just a little but very pretty. (not quite enough to make a snowman yet)
From the top of Sandwich, the views were beautiful even minus the foliage! Washington was very white against the blue sky along with the Bonds and Layfayette. Even Cannon had some white stuff.
What a great day to be out in the woods. I love the Sandwich range. It is such a beautiful hike!
