Without having a snowstorm for a few days, I figured the odds of the Mt. Kinsman Trail being broken would be good. It was 3 degrees when I started. Reaching the new trailhead parking lot which was plowed, or it appeared to be with all the vehicles in the lot when I arrived. I have a 4WD and I'm glad I did. The lot was so full I parked in the snow. There was a large AMC group before me who basically broke out the trail to Kinsman Ridge and to both summits. Thanks to them all I used was MicroSpikes the whole way.

Above the Bald Peak trail junction, snow depth increased. Nearing the forest protection boundary, the tracks which I was following, indicated that snowshoes was required if I was the first in line.

Things were sunny with a decent wind on the Kinsman Ridge. I had a temperature reading of a balmy 10 degrees. I had spectacular views from the North Kinsman Ledge [4,293 ft.] Continuing to South Kinsmans [4,358 ft.], I enjoyed near 360 degree views.
On my return back to my truck, the descent was smooth with the trail broken.

This hike was 10 miles round trip with a 3,950 ft. elevation gain.

Rolling Rock,

That AMC group was Ed Hawkins Grid Group. Which one of the guy's were you? Were you the guy hiking solo? By the way, I wouldn't get my hopes up on that lot being plowed out this winter. It may have looked plowed, but I think it was just packed out from the traffic. Sorry we didn't meet. Maybe next time.

I was the guy hiking solo that caught up with your group on the North Kinsman summit. Hope to meet you next time. Thanks for breaking trail!:)

must be looking north. I think I see the Percy's and just below them and left the tower at Weeks State Park.

Nice photos! Thanks for the TR!
