I and a group did a last minute hike up North Moat on Sunday, going up North Moat via the Moat Mountain trail and then down via Red Ridge. Beyond meeting a group of celebrities along the way, it was a pleasant hike albeit a tad bit windy at the summit.
The streams were running quite fast for the season, in a couple of cases, getting wet wasnt an option. The only things to note of consequence is the section of the Moat Mountain trail north of the Junction with Red Ridge trail has become a stream bed for a couple of hundred feet and the main stream has threaded in a few places requiring some planning to make sure that when running parallel to the trail to avoid the water that you end up on the right side. The other thing to note is the steep banking that drops down to the stream bed on the Red Ridge trail has eroded back even farther. Some folks with issues traversing slippery side slopes may not like this spot although with some care a lot of it can be avoided by bushwhacking through the woods.
