I hope I am not being too basic here, but here is some info for NYC area downstate hikers in NY. we have the ramapo 1000 footers in harriman as well as the hudson highlands a little further north. there are many beautiful and challenging hikes here. we have a 7 day a week dog friendly hiking group. see url in my sig for further info. also the ny nj trail conference www.nynjtc.org has maps and links to many groups. i am out every day w my dogs regardless of weather, so anyone who has a day off from work and not enough time to get to the catskills or daks, come along with us--susan
