Thanks to those who joined us for making these hikes so much fun!

Hope everyone enjoyed their Christmas Holiday and are looking forward to the New Year!

Seven already, that's a season for me, although I'm not in any hurry to have the kids grow up, it's happening too fast already.

Great pics and reports! What a great way to jump into winter.

Keep it up, as I live vicariously through your TRs.

Hiking 4 days in a row, who do you think you are, Stinkyfeet :)

But your comment on Mt Cabot about the sign being wrong is incorrect. There is another junction that you fail to describe. If you look at your track log http://rbhayes.net/latest/cabot12-22-05/html/1.htm , if the map is correct you missed a right turn. I am suspicious of the map and think you may have gone R on the Kilkenny Ridge Trail without noticing that the Bunnell Notch Trail descends ahead - in the summer this continuation is very overgrown and muddy asnd receives hardly any use and it may be even worse in the winter.

Roy - Your right I didn't mention the junction where the Cabot trail bears to the left and we went more to the right. If you look closely at the track you will see where we were searching for the trail that is shown on the map as is also described by Vegematic in her recap of the hike. We expected to find a trail going to the right at the sign whch pointed to the right bu never found one, nor on the return trip did we see a trail leading off the to the left.

As noted by Vegematic your route is as shown on the WMG map and hence is the present trail.

The R turn on the 7.5' map is as shown on the old 15' map http://docs.unh.edu/NH/mtws38nw.jpg and I believe is where the trail went when I climbed Cabot from the fish hatchery maybe 20 years ago. That trail followed the old phone line to the tower but of course you couldn't see old wire on the ground with all that snow. Sometime since it has been relocated to be less steep, as a trail maintainer Vegematic should be pleased that they did such a good job of obscuring the old trail so nobody will follow it :)

It was a fine example of trail obscuration :D . I did see, however, one hint of line up on the ridge. It was on the right-turn-section that we'd been looking for. A ceramic torus was attached to a tree with very rusty wire. Might have been for electricity though, given the ceramic piece? I wondered about it.
