Took the standard route in, and after putting on pants and glasses, we left the trail at the false summit with the small square rock, heading due east. Have some bw experience, but thought this would be a good challenge. Steep at times but never overwhelmingly dense. Got into one of the drain ages, and followed nearby until the woods opened up. Finding Franconia brook was easy and was a great place to rinse off the pine needles. Finding the trail was an easy stroll from the brook. Came out just north of hell gate brook - beginner's luck? Glad I was going down and not up. Would recommend it if you are considering a bw experience, but not sure if it saves too much time. [email protected]
