I'm headed for Pittsburg, NH in July (already booked my cabin) and paddling with my kayak is going to be a big part of this vacation. I plan to hit First, Second and Fourth Connecticut Lakes. Has anybody ever paddled any of these lakes? Any preference? Can anyone suggest any other good paddle spots in the Pittsburg area?

I'm hoping to just avoid any ski craft which I doubt I'd see up there since the emphasis seems to be on land locked Salmon fishing in that area. I imagine there are restrictions on motorized watercraft on the Connecticut Lakes.

Any info as always, is appreciated. Thanks.

I've paddled on one or two of those, but just small areas. My heart lies with going to Scotts Bog up there, nice wild life, no motor boats, unless they want to dodge tree stumps.
We used a canoe (14') , but a smallish kayak would be fine.

I don't know anything about fishing, so can't help on that....

4th lake might be a bit of a haul. Normally the hike up along the boundary vista is a tough mile or so, so you'd have to try doing a whack/portage from 3rd lake. That looks like about 1/2 mile 500 ft of elevation. Then when you get there, 4th lake is like teeeeny. I love to go there though - beautiful.

My mistake, I actually meant to say Third Connecticut Lake.

I'll second Scott Bog as a fine paddling side trip in the Connecticut Lakes region.

A friend and i tried to access Scott Bog by canoe by traveling up Scott Brook, via Second Connecticut Lake, but low water caused us to turn around not far from our destination. Believe that we might have made it with higher water in the brook.

The nearby East Inlet is also a very nice place to paddle. You might want to explore the stream on the north end of the pond.
