I'm planning a three-night trip up the Wilderness trail, hopefully up Bondcliff and maybe Bond as well. Wednesday-Saturday, late July. Two fathers, two sons 8 and 10 yrs old. The limiting factor is definitely the other father-- not in good shape, hasn't backpacked in a decade or more, etc... The kids are fairly new to backpacking but they're game and fit. I'd like to find out as much as I can about the area, in particular whether there are any good campsites near the bottom of Bondcliff trail and an appraisal of how difficult the Bonds would be as a dayhike from there for the other Dad.
My plan at this point is to set up a camp for all three nights, have one lay-around day for fishing and just enjoying the wilderness, and one day to go up high. I know this sounds incredibly easy to some of you, but it will be a good start for this group.
So can anyone tell me *exactly* where there's a particularly nice spot to set up near the bottom of Bondcliff? Any other suggestions? Or other route ideas? How much farther or more difficult is the hike in to 13 falls compared to Bondcliff trail? Which spot has the better swimming holes? Would we have a better chance of reaching a nice summit if we went to 13 falls? I know that a loop over and around, staying at Guyot, would be great, but this group isn't up to that yet...
Thanks for any replies!
