Long over due trip report. Thought I had time I would put it up. It's a well worth while trip. We originally planned a bushwhack up Big Slide but ended up finding an excellent brook up Phelps. This brook is located off the Klondike Notch Trail, but is seen as a gully on topo mpas. As it crosses the trail it's a slab rock with decent amounts of water flowing. The slab isn't that slipery with thick moss coving it and the rocks for traction.

We made quick work of it, as there was hardly no tree obstructing our path. We found ourselves being pushed toward what we called North Phelps, which is a blow down trap. We stay below the ridge and until right below North Phelps we headed toward the summit. The views from the ledge on North Phelps are one of the best I have ever seen.

From there it was a straight forward bushwhack to the Pelkey Basin herd path which leads to the summit of Phelps.

We descended into Pelkey Basin by following the herd path to its end and bushwhacking through open birch glades to the Marcy Dam truck trail.

Killer hike, well recommended.

Nice report. Was the peak you call North Phelps the 3960 peak just north of the true summit or the 3340 peak further north?

The one further North. Not along the ridge Tabletop. The one just north has nice views too, but the same as Phelps. This one actually looks behind Phelps. It's about 0.4-0.5 miles from Phelps. Check it out.
