Lots of great pix here. Nice variety.

Hopefully I'll get a chance soon to get up to the mountains to hike and complete my homework assignment, but in the mean time, here are a few photos from September. I consider these to be good instructive illustrations of how to successfully mess up a silhouette photo.

Here, I accidentally lined up the ocean horizon with the bottom of the thatch beach umbrella. I also find the non-uniform background to be a little distracting.

Here, I cut off our legs at the knees. Should've walked out and stood right at the water's edge.

So in both photos, the silhouette/exposure came out mostly what I was trying for. But with respect to composition in both photos, I laid an egg.

Silhouettes

Here's a film shot I took of a friend on Bondcliff after sunset on 9/2/03. I cut off the legs a little and if I didn't say "This is Bondcliff," who would ever know? I still like it, though it could have been better:

This one is at sunrise 10/15/08 on the summit ledge of Osceola. I sure wish there wasn't a spruce tree growing out of her back!

Though not a true silhouette, I like this one a lot:

Don't kick yourself for the cut off legs. This still is a nice image in its genre -- I like the human figure emerging from shadow into a background of mist, and finally, bright sky.

As for personal favorites, I've really come to like blaze's picture of the two hikers in post #35. Good, tight composition, and good, authentic body postures. I even like the low key (dark) tonality of this one, contrasted to the bright orb in the sky above. Subtly depicted textures in the ground are very nice as well.

This is actually a tough one for me. There aren't too many places that I visit year-round since my travels tend to move north in the summer/fall and south in the spring/winter.

I did find a few, though.
