Trails: Sherburne Pass Trail, Pico spur, Long Trail/AT, Killington Spur
Trail
Conditions: All trails in good shape and well signed. Blowdowns have been cleared. Bog bridges and log treads (or whatever they’re called) are in pretty good shape (a few bog bridges could use repairs). There was a small amount of ice on the K-spur, but easy to rock-hop. Little ankle-biting rocks are hiding under the fallen foliage though, beware!
Equipment: Microspikes were carried, never used, but if the ice had been just a little worse they would have been necessary.
Comments: It was a wonderful early November hike, with clear skies and warm weather. We were in shorts and short-sleeved shirts most of the day. However, from the summit of Killington we could look down and see skiers on the few trails that Killington has open - it was a bit surreal. I lost my Long Trail map somewhere between the trailhead and Pico Camp, if anyone sees it I would love to get it back. One a side-note the gentleman at the desk in the Inn was quite nice, showing us the little backroom full of pictures and articles on thru-hikers (I hope to be a LT thru hiker next summer).
