The beavers at NH Audubon's Alice Bemis Thompson Sanctuary apparently view the interpretive signs as menus.

Anyone know what flower this is? They are growing in the woods near my house, but I'm guessing they are domestic.

After I planted 21 Norway Spruce trees on Saturday, I grabbed my camera and took this shot in my back yard. I think the composition gives it a "wilderness" feel even though it is about 12' from my house...

Looks like Grape Hyacinth (Muscari).

I really enjoy your pics...ever try to get em published in a magazine?

Have you ever tried to photograph birds or other wildlife?

I've never submitted anything to magazines. I'd really like to someday when I get the time. So far I have only been published in textbooks.

As for bird photography, I have only done it a few times. I did get this nice shot of a bluebird on my parent's property. I'd like to take some shots of shore birds this summer. Most of my photography is landscapes though.

Thanks for the positive feedback.

Here a just a few of the Lady Slippers that saw on today's lunch time walk in Milford, NH

Lady Slippers

Boy the skeeters were hungry today. Hard to hold the camera still with 10+ on my hand!

Flowers this year have been sensational in the Catskills, especially off in the W. There were acres of trout lilies, then an acre of two of wood anemone, then a few scads of wild ginseng, and so on ad infinitum. Have to get over to one wetland W of Doubletop very soon--there was something close to bloom that I couldn't figure out at all. Also bog cranberry (not in bloom). I've did some photography, but not as much as I had hoped.

ID help?

I found a small flower on the trail (Old Mast Road) yesterday that I couldn't id, a drooping, bell-shaped flower.

The whole thing stands about 6 inches high. A single crook-shaped stem with narrow leaves that hug the stem. The 3/4 inch flower is white or possibley pale blue and hangs straight down.

Unfortunately it was raining and I elected not to take picture.

I can only hazard a wild guess based on the description. If the flower was cream, it was one of the bellworts. If it was blue, or you have seen the bellworts ("Wild Oats," one species is commonly called) and this was not one, I have no idea.

The only other thing that comes immediately to mind that plausibly fits the description would be one of the blue-eyed grasses, so called, a relative of the irises, but I don't think they are yet in flower and the tiny bloom is noticeably iris-like. But the flowers aren't usually pendant on that.

I agree with Ted, the catskill flora has been pretty spectacular this year. My Escarpment hike, saw numerous pretty flowers, stopped to take a picture of a white trillium but my photo was overexposed and didn't come out too well. But pretty nonetheless..

P.S. Quietman, your photo link didn't work..

Darren, beautiful shots! You are quite talented! I particularly like the trillium shot--great swirl effect with the green leaves behind the flower.

Saw lots of flowers in the Puzzle Mt backpack. Have yet to figure out what I've seen--tons of trillium of course. Also saw the flower Bob saw (great description btw). And lots of small white flowers.

Great thread!
