Our group of eight headed up the Crawford Path under mild, calm, sunny blue skies.
Packed powder made it a delightful day for snowshoeing.

Just about 1/4 mile above the junction for the Mizpah hut the trail becomes a bushwack through a maze of spruce lean-ins and crawl throughs. There are quite a few tracks that go around in circles so it is a trial and error type situation. We stayed to the right and chose the most consolidated track. It proved to be pretty far off the trail. I think we approached Pierce from the south face. It was new territory for all of us but very fun and we were never really lost.
The wind above treeline seemed to be a steady 25 mph increasing as we approached Ike.

From Pierce to Ike it opens right up and we made our own path to the summit of Eisenhower with no problem. Winds here were a steady 30+mph with gusts of 40.

On our return we were pelted the wind driven snow but because of mild temps ( 25 degrees?) I was not really ever a worry. Safe trip down. My first time on Ike in winter and my 30th winter 4K. Thanks to Ed and Becca for a wonderful fun time. Really nice meeting Wolfgang and hiking with Guy, Noel, Bill, and the gentleman from Redding Mass.

Karen,

Great day on the trail. Nice meeting and hiking with you. I was really surprised at all the hikers that we saw yesterday. Whoever broke that route out, put a lot of work into it. I imagine that it will be the track at least until the next big snow.

Karen . . . you had a fabulous hike. And, you got some remarkable snapshots. Especially nice is your eighth photo showing the classic view from Mt. Pierce looking northeasterly up the Presidential Range. Your photo is well composed and the cloud formation really provides added interest.
