Date of Hike: February 4, 2012
Trails: Crawford Path, Webster Cliff Trail, Webster-Jackson Trail
Conditions: Fluffy powder snow over a pretty firm base of packed snow. 1-2 inches of powder down below and up to about 6 inches of powder up on the ridge.
Equipment: Snowshoes recommended for the traverse from Pierce to Jackson. Microspikes highly recommended for descending the Webster-Jackson Trail (some very tricky icy spots). Left the crampons in the car and never missed them.
Comments: Originally we were planning on hiking Ike and Pierce, but the poor visibility and wind made us revise our plans and head over to Jackson instead. I was very happy we did as I’ve never hiked the trail between Pierce and Jackson – it was lovely. The fluffy snow and gradually clearing skies made for a beautiful day.
