We got to the Broken Branch KOA by 7pm friday night and I proceeded to party like a (aging) Rock Star (who only drinks beer and has to wake up early) with Tom and Laurie Rankin, marchowes and McRat (nice Dylan tune, McRat ! Sorry it got late.)

The forecast for Saturday was not great and it drizzled a bit on the way into the Notch. By 8am my and my Sister-in-Law's family were at the Highland Center eating breakfast and we hit the Crawford Path by 9:15. 11:45 found us all at the summit of Pierce setting up our flag for the 9/11 Memorial. Two or three other groups joined us for the event as other hikers passed through, thanking us for our efforts. The weather continued to improve throughout the day, which was a great surprise. My group left me at the summit and started down at about 1. At 2:15 I broke down the flag and headed out. I got back to the Center about 3:15, enjoyed the facilities and a cold Sam and collected my group.

Showers, pool, venison jerky (send the recipe, Laurie), burgers, more socializing and campfire tours were enjoyed Saturday night. Sunday morning brought the rain, a hearty breakfast with our families and the drive home.

All told, another excellent "Flags on the 48" September 11th Memorial event where we really lucked out with the weather. Thanks to all who participated and especially to the guys who organize this !

Pics are here ! Thanks for looking.

Woodstock Broken Branch KOA ? 8 ? No one told you about the skinny dipping kegger in the river outback of the camp grounds ???

Dang, must have been one campsite behind you. We were at my brother-in-law's 5th wheel across from the pool, our Kabin by the tent site loop and Trekman's home brew gathering Saturday night.

Nice meeting you Chip, thanks for the long trail. Glad you liked the "open a beer with a firelog" trick :) POP!

We were with Chip, at the kegger! :D Actually, we were kind of on the fringes of the 'island', at K-2 (what a name!), and then Chip's relatives' place, having said a brief 'hi' to HikerAmiga as she was setting up her tent. In the morning we looked around and the 'island' was almost deserted, so we hit the road.

But the Porter was great! :D

Nice to see you again this year Chip! Thanks for you and your groups participation in the Flags event.

Giggy, you were fine. Marc left about an hour or so before you arrived.

Unlike Giggy, I got to meet you! :D Thanks for coming by at the KOA to greet me!

Great TR and photos! What a nice, supportive family you have!

Best,

Congrats on getting the family up Pierce. It turned out to be a pretty good day for most of the peaks... particularly after seeming so threatening in the AM.

It was really nice meeting you at the KOA. Thanks for letting me fool around on your guitar for a bit.
