I was supposed to join some friends on another hike this Wednesday, but discovered my spouse only had Wednesday off. So quick change in plans and off with a group of 9 of us to something much closer to home and within the enjoyment range of the group.
We chose Pilot Knob as only 3 of us in the group had done it. I won't describe the route as its on a renegade trail, but DEC property. Lets just say that there were probably hundreds on its greater-known but(IMHO) inferior neighbor.
Really interesting soft trail thru cliffs and rocks in the lower half, then in and out of stunted oaks, rocky ledges, and windswept open areas up higher. Each viewspot better and better.
The timing of the hike was perfect. We got back to the car, and the rain started about 5 min later.
Jo will post some pictures, including one that looks like a Tiger Lily but I don't think it is.
Pilot Knob is an extraordinary hike, a local favorite, even when the weather isn't perfect.
Bookah had a ball with no blowdown to negotiate.
Next time will probably be this Autumn.
