When I was up in the whites last week, I checked out what was left of the Pine Island Trail. I definitely WOULD NOT recommend hiking along it, because there are parts of it that are gone. After going thru a bunch of my pictures, I found some comparison shots, so I thought I'd share some of them below.

I just put this together showing how nasty the conditions are. I ended up having to bushwhack along the river's edge and it was very rough going...then I just whacked back to the East Side trail because I completely lost the trail.

This trail was adopted by a well-known area bookseller. He said it was signed as CLOSED by the Forest Service and thought it might never be reopened.

Thanks for posting, grouseking!

This trail is a family favorite when we have limited time. Amazing how the views have opened up, and all the debris has piled up! Sorry to see it's closed.
