My dad is meeting me in a few weeks to hike N & Middle sugarloaf off Zealand Rd in the whites, he will have his car & doesn't have a WMNF pass... is there anywhere nearby that would be a good place to leave it? (or would I just be better off if we both drove to the trailhead & paid the day fee? I would have to call up WMNF to find out if it has a place you can pay, I remember hiking Mt Starr King / Waumbek & it was a fee area but there was no "iron ranger" so you would have had to buy a sticker / day pass somewhere else.)

One parking option is the park owned by the town of Carrol. It's in Twin Mt. Take your first right after Foster's Store (assuming you're on Rte 3 North). This is just before the bridge over the Ammon. river; if you go to the intersection of Rtes 3 and 302, you went too far. The road to the parks follows along the Ammon. river. I think the road is labeled as a dead end. The park has a large parking lot, restrooms and several baseball fields. In the winter, it is used by snowmobilers to park and off load their trailers.

I'm not sure if the winter lot across Rt 302 from Zealand road requires the WMNF parking pass.

We've met people before that do not have a pass and left their car at Foster's Store which is just before the intersection of Rte 3 & 302. Just go in and ask them if it is okay and where to park - we have always found them to be very accomidating.

I think this huge lot is free & highly visible to keep break-ins at a minimum, probably safer than the trailhead.
