Please report any snow-free slopes, or even ones that are showing big patches of bare ground. I'm not talking about the trails, but the slopes of any mountains. Thanks!!!

happy spring :)

I've hiked Wildcat D, Mt. Pierce, and the Doubleheads this week - none of them are anywhere close to melting out.

If you're willing to hike just a bit south of the Whites, I think you'll have some options after this upcoming rain.

Red Hill - up Red Hill Trail, enjoy the view, then descend via the loop trail - at the ledges near the top of the loop portion, begin bushwack (south/southwest facing slope) - open woods, good views, and there are some big deer in there.

Green Mountain - the area near the lower third of the Dearborn Trail had melted out in early January, so I suspect it may be clear again soon (if not already).

Other possibilities - Mt. Morgan south slope was starting to melt out a few weeks ago. Peaked Mountain's south slope near North Conway looks to be melting out a bit as of today.

Sorry for the hijack, FN

While we're at it, please report any snow COVERED slopes as well!

Hey Tom, how are things melting out in the Catskills??

Is Platte Clove Rd set to open next week??

We'll be Running with The Devil (full traverse) in one month's time, hoping for snow free conditions!

:D

I visited Mt. Sabattus in Lovell, ME today. The summit area was largely snow-free. Needed the snowshoes on the rest of the loop, however. I watched for, but did not see, signs of spring flowers pushing up through the leaf-litter.

North facing slopes still have snow. South faces are pretty much melted off. Up high here is still some snow for sure! :D

The southern slopes of Bartlett Mtn., just west of Mt. Kearsarge North, are about 95% clear. See TR. I didn't see any wildflowers, either.

happy spring :)

bare ground

Seen lots of bare ground on the SW slope of the Osippee's. Great place for spring flowers. Saw some on Balk Knob trail last year.

bald knob

Lots of bare ground on the SW slopes of the Ossipees. Good place for liverwart.

Snow free trails

Mount Major boulder trail is snow free for almost the entire top half of the trail. Not much mud to speak of on that trail either.
The bottom half is still snow packed from snow mobile trails, and the middle was a stream

Thanks, and welcome!

happy trails :)

Driving up to Waterville today, Welch-Dickey looked pretty bare - no snow visible on the ledges and no snow visible through the trees.

The southern slopes of Red Hill looked pretty bare from the road too.
