Today Tom and Atticus reported in Black Mountain (Benton), Chippewa Trail:

Trail Conditions: No monorail of snow for us. No snow at all, other than a very small patch just below the summit. Trail is nearly all dry, too. Great condition.

Peaked Mtn, North Conway

We visited this TNC preserve today and found quite a bit of open ground. Most of the snow was at lower elevations, the climb up the Peaked Mtn Trail after the Middle Mtn Trail branched right was almost entirely snow-free. We descended via the Peaked-Middle-Connector, also largely snow-free, but the portion of our descent via the Middle Mtn trail was monorail.

We also hiked the Pudding Pond Loop: Monorail and snow all around but a few bare spots.

Dearborn Trail to Green Mt. in Effingham is bare and dry - no mud - but for a little soft snow over the last 100 vertical feet. This surprised me, since there was a ton of snow in the vicinity just two weeks ago. A tribute to the power of the April sun on a SE exposure.

This was definitely enhanced from the January thaw - much of that trail melted dry during the warm spell.

The southern leg of the White Ledge Trail is mostly snow free.

It's not the Whites, but almost. Just a half hour east of Conway, in the vicinity of Bridgton, ME you have Pleasant Mt. The Ledges trail is now free of snow. The other trails still have snow. The top is clear of snow and the views are great.

You'll find the Ledges trail by going to the Shawnee Peak ski area. Continue south on Mt. Ave. for roughly 1 1/2 miles. The parking is on your left and the trail head on your right.

Was on South Moat yesterday. A bit of snow in the very beginning, but clear the rest of the way.

Hey I did Rattlesnake today too! Were you with that group that was starting out around 1:30pm?

Went up north after the hike, Ravine Rd appears to be snow free but the gate is still closed. So are the gates to Elbow Pond and Tripoli Rd.

As an amendment to that, there are only 4 very small patches of snow left, where the trail sort of drops around the back of the mountain before approaching the summit.

I did the Cotton Mt Mt Livermore loop yesterday ...

Planning to do that on Saturday. Yesterday I scouted the area and it seems that the lowest part of the Cotton Mtn. Trail is a small lake Is there a bypass or did you wade across it?

Let's see..a couple of questions to address..

I did..and usually do..the Rattlesnakes from Rockywold Deephaven trailheads...does not get the crowds that the main trail does and a bit more vertical..(workout hike)

As for Cotton Mt..there is a small lake at the base of trail..head up 113n for 100 yards or so..see old road that cuts up into the banking and follow the edge of the old overgrown sandpit cut..this brings you out to the lower end of the newer sandpit which if you follow the northern edge brings you up to the signpost for Cotton Mt Trail....

Just read this post: Indian Head to Mt. Pemi.

Very wet with patches of bare ground in the beginning but the snow sections get deep and snow shoes should be used. For the last uphill section snow shoes necessary otherwise you will post hole.

This is a small mountain (less than 3,000 feet) with lots of open hardwoods and a southern exposure, the kind that gets snow-free early. So do not assume that anything is snow-free until you read about it! Of course, you are very welcome to explore; if so please post what you discover.

Pleasant Mtn, Bridgton, ME update

As reported by Ed'nLauky last week the Ledges Trail is snow free. It may be even drier now as we did not need to wade yesterday (26 Apr).

From the summit the Southwest Peak (with the cell tower) appeared to have only patchy snow remaining.

Descending via the Bald Peak Trail we encountered only very short stretches of shallow snow. What snow remains will be gone very soon. This trail does have some very wet and muddy sections. We got down with dry feet but slipped a lot.

I talked with a friend yesterday who had just walked most of the Pleasant Mt. massif by going up the South West Ridge trail and all the way over to Bald Peak and then back. He said it was basically clear the whole way. About a week ago I was told there was still snow and ice on the Fire warden's trail. That may be mostly gone now.

Did two hikes yesterday (4/27)

Willey & Field (ton of snow, but the ladders were snow free, it will be a few more weeks)

Later I went up Middle Sugarloaf, just a couple of easy to avoid spots below the stairs. On the way down my shoes touched snow or ice a total of 9 steps.
