I had my 20th college reunion that weekend, so I couldn't really join in the fun. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it. I was in Hanover and then VT for Friday night and Saturday morning, then took off to try and reach Crawford Notch in time to meet up with hikers on the ridge. Along the way I picked up a cooler, some ice, and a few pints of Ben and Jerry's.

I made a quick job of packing in the Mt Clinton Road lot and then started up the Crawford Path at 2:00 PM. It was hot. I quickly dialed back the pace so as not to become a statistic before reaching the hikers. Fortunately I got my breath back and made it to the ridge around 3:50, just barely in time to catch Tuco on the summit of Pierce. I had missed the first of the hikers (Giggy and Jay H) but he seemed happy to see me.

He took off and just then Bob and Geri and MichaelJ showed up, coming back from Lakes of the Clouds where they waited for a few hours, but didn't get to see many folks. We chatted and ate some ice cream and chocolate, then saw Chomp, Mike P, and three others (spacing on names) arrive. Chomp was headed on to Jackson and Webster, Mike was headed down from Pierce. They all packed up and I decided it was time to push north in search of the rest.

Did I mention the chicken hat? I got this with 2 UPC codes from Pop Tarts we get at work and $3.99 in S&H. It's a Chicken Little promo and I think it's the greatest thing in the world. I was wearing the hat, I think I forgot to mention it. And an aloha shirt.

So north I go, running into Sherpa John who looked beat, having done the regular Traverse, plus a side trip to and from Isolation. I think he thought he was hallucinating, remember, the chicken hat. Right behind him was the main group of VftT'ers, a total of 8 humans and 2 dogs. They consumed the remaining ice cream but seemed much more interested in the leftover ice. I swear I could hear it boil as they placed the cubes on their skin.

We jaunted back up to Pierce where this group decided that it was right and proper to head down the Crawford Path. I was amazed at how spry everyone was, still traveling at a good pace those final 3 miles. After that we drove back to CMR where there was a subdued but happy evening spent around the fire and dozing peacefully in tents.

Borrowing photos from several of the Traversers, I put together a short video (20 Meg), hope you enjoy. Please make note of the chicken hat.

Inspiring, very inspiring all of you.

Nothing like a good cheering squad to keep you motivated.. I am sure they all appreciated you being there...

Good job to everyone who completed the traverse....and hope you all raised a lot of money...

Maybe when I move to the area I will be able to participate myself.

Congrats to all..

Great video Dave. Very encouraging to see people supporting the event any way they can. BTW nice hat. Big fan of Foghorn Leghorn myself.

actually I was VERY happy to see the ice cream and ice water, but yeah, I guess I was happy to see you too. :D

In all seriousness, thanks for the efforts of those volunteers that came up and supported us. It was nice to see a friendly face before trudging back down to the car. (did I mention the ice cream and ice water??) Good to meet you Dave.

Nice video also…

Great job Dave! It was fun to see all the differant photos put together like that. Found that we kept tapping our feet to the tune :>

Great idea to put those all together!! Like Bob said... I was a tappin' all the way though it!! I forgot about the VFTT/Sherpa "thumbs-up" move!! He-he!!

I hope everyone that didn't hike and is reading this understands that seeing you in all your splendor (new word for tacky hiking gear!!) was a real highlight! Best was we then got to hike down together!!

Thanks for all you've done. The hike was great and I'd do it again in a hearbeat. :D (prbly lots of heartbeats the way this one went...)

Thanks again Dave, I mean Chicken Little,

You had ice cream & goodies, I didn't even notice :D :D :D

Loved the media show, Dave. Particularly the tune: These Boots Are Made for Walking is my hiking theme song (and drunken Karoake tune). I was singing it as I hiked up Bondcliff Saturday night -- thinking of all of you. (Sorry I bailed on CMR Sat. night -- a moment of insanity prevailed).

Congrats to all that made it.

Dave what a great video...I totally enjoyed it.
It just made the start to my day. Thanks.

Dave - sweet movie! I wish I could have been there. Nice job with the ice cream. I'm glad someone stepped up and took over my job of handing out ice cream. :D

I don't know about the chicken hat, but I like the aloha shirt. I will be adding to my collection of aloha shirts soon enough...

Great job everyone!

Very good movie, EXCELLENT CHOICE FOR MUSIC. Looks like a great time was had by all.

Nessun commento sul cappello del pollo.

CM (short for Chicken Man), damn nice piece of Video! Really made my day!

Only 2 issues:
1) I had one beer all weekend (actually only 2 since 3/19!) and that is the pic I get? I understand that I did nurse it for 2 hours, so that might explain things
2) Mike P. running? Are you sure you didn't just speed things up? I knew he looked to be in great shape, but running on a Traverse? Whoo-eee!

And one comment: Bubba, nice tights. Almost as good as mine.

I like the hat. and despite what Seeker says, you have it on the right way

The only time I saw you was in the evening, after the hiike. And, yes, you had a beer in your hand the whole time. Granted, it was the same beer the entire night, but that's when I saw you. :D

Notice, no pack. :) He ran up to the summit of Pierce from the ledge, 200 feet away, after eating ice cream. Buy hey, he was running, far better than I would do at that point.
