Yes, there is winter out there. It's just not here.
I got a phone call 2 weeks ago from my uncle, telling me they had an extra ski condo in Park City Utah, would I be able to use it? Less then 24 hours later I had cleared my vacation time and bought airline tickets. I flew out Wed night and skied the OK conditions on Thursday and Friday at Park City. There was pretty good coverage, and some soft snow in the trees, but the temps were warm and the snow a bit heavy.
Friday night we got another foot of nice snow and it was snowing most of the day on Saturday. I headed to Puma Bowl, outside the gates, and got some killer runs down steep terrain with 2'+ of fresh snow. We had to hike a bit to get it, but it was well worth it. So, I finally had my powder day in Utah!
Or so I thought. The next day I was over at Alta with my friends Jeff (a local) and Nick (from Maine) who both flew in from sea level late on Saturday. Alta was a whole 'nuther world. This was a powder day. Bottomless light fluffy powder, steep uncompromising terrain, narrow chutes, nicely spaced trees, lots of fun.
Here are the pictures. Here's the video. It definitely failed to suck.
