adamiata: the beauty of a mid to late June Traverse attempt is lots of available daylight. Although hiking under headlamp is awesome, you certainly do not hike at the speed that you can in daylight. September's shorter days will leave you hiking for nearly 3 more hours on September 16th (~12.25 daylight hours) than June 16th (~15.1 daylight hours) would, so figure it would take an additional hour or 2, having you hiking in more darkness.

I've wanted to do this for a long time, and the weekend before or after the first day of summer was always when I planned to do it.

Mike P. No problem for the ride. (it was actually my friend who was driving). I am sure at some point I will have to ask someone for a ride so it is good to know there are nice people out there.

September Traverse People: I just looked at the calendar and noticed that Saturday, September 17th is a full moon. Would any of you be up for a midnight Traverse. We can reach Madison by Sunset and then Hike through the night. Of course, I think it should only be attempted on a clear night. Maybe we should start a new thread for this hike.
Also, some of you have asked how I looked. You can check out my web site: http://home.comcast.net/~matthew.smith2/

not boring at all. i've always thought about doing a hike like that one, but don't think i could wake up quite that early in the morning. hopefully i can get in my first nh hike on monday when i am coming back from vt, hopefully madison or adams. i wish all that snow would melt soon.

I'm planning the Traverse for next June or early July, probably could try now but planning on sticking to 3 4 x a week at the gym during lunch which sl far is easier for me motivationally. Have put in a couple of near death marches already - at least long days with a couple of 15+ mile days (although starting at 5,048 feet) in TN in the first 1/2 of July & perhaps a peakbagging weekend the week after I come back north

Thnaks Matt & Friend for the ride :D
