Now?

I'm all about living in the now, but summer is for the kayak. Sweating on a trail with bugs and tourists is not my idea of a good time. I know, I know the tourists can be avoided and if you pick your days right you can get great summer weather, but Fall is just the best time to be out of doors.

not yet

even tho i now love winter since taking up snowshoeing and winter hiking (and hopefully some more ice climbing practice!) i am not ready for it yet. too much rain this summer leaves me longing for a beautiful dry fall first.

I don't know about everybody else, but I'm still waiting for summer to come! I have yet to experience hot/humid on a hike this year, it's really been terrible!

Summer can hold out a while longer, I haven't had my fill...

May to October-kayak/kayak camping
November to April-backpacking/camping

yardwork and home repairs-"I'll do it during the off-seasson":D

I'm not sure where you live, but it's been pretty much fall like here in New York State for a good part of the summer. I don't normally hike much in the summer due to the heat/bugs, but in hindsight I wish I had planned a couple of trips. The temps have been very moderate. Of course, you've had to dodge raindrops.

I have been waiting for winter since March 21st. I would much rather step foot onto a trail with freshly fallen snow than stepping on a trail and have sweat pouring down on me with a swarm of bugs. Not my idea of fun. Although this summer has not been too bad. We did see a lot of cooler days even here in NJ. I still prefere the cold and snow. I seem to be more active.

For all you winter enthusiasts out there have I got some good news for you. Last night while we were taking our nine o’clock observation we saw three semi trucks driving up the auto road. Very surprised I asked Jeff, the night observer, what are those trucks doing on the road. He explained that they were filling the fuel tanks for winter. Quite astonished to see this I watched them for a few minutes contemplating what they were doing. When it hit me, winter is just around the corner and they must fill the tanks before the snow and cold temperatures get here! Very good news if you can’t wait for winter. Just a month before we will receive our first measurable snowfall on top of Mount Washington. I can’t wait!
