A quick 1 night stay at the wonderful new Leanto near Herbert Brook and climbing Redfield and Cliff were on the agenda for Sunday and Monday. As with the rest of the weekend, beautiful weather greeted us as we arrived at the UW's TH at 10:00AM Sunday--gear check and we were off arriving at the LT at 12:30--A quick unload and then grab the daypacks and off to Redfield. It was a gorgeous day--warm sun and cool temps--As there had been some traffic before us, the HP was easy to follow. It was beautiful walk up the summit snowfield. It was hard to leave with warm sun on our faces, but we had to get back and setup camp for the night--When we arrived we had this view
This was Judy's first winter overnight so I made sure she was set and warmed up--a quick dinner and she was asleep by 7:tup: It was acold clear night and the 1/2 moon rose brightly around midnight. We both slept well and awoke and had breakfast around 7--We did a preliminary pack-up and were off to Cliff at 8. We hiked in morning sun and as we turned up the herdpath, it was on us full force--Not a winter-cold sun, but a sun that felt more like spring, warming and comforting. The climb up Cliff was fun---Steep and a little slippery as the snow had melted off in spots exposing the ice below---MSR's all the way up though. The sunny summit was incredible and the views were great--Cliff is one of my favorite "little" mountains and Judy wasn't dissapointed.
We had contemplated heading up to Skylight, but decided to take advantage of the early hour and head back. We were back shortly after noon, packed up and headed out. When we arrived near the TH we met 2 ladies who said they were waiting for the friend to come back from Marshall--As we reached the register we saw JayH--"Hey":D --Jay's finishing we shouted--WOOHOO--We left him greetings on his car and were off. A stop at the BlackBear in Pottersville for the best greasy burger you can ask for and headed home. A terrific couple days--Judy gave a:tup: to winter camping (w/ a few tweaks). And this gets her to 38/46...

Wow-that worked out well !
Nice report and slideshow.
Sounds like the perfect way to get those 2 in winter.

Climbing Cliff had to be a "pup" !

Judy won't take off her mitties:D She's better looking anyway.
See??

Both these peaks are much better in the winter, wouldn't you say? And the views from the Herbert Brook lean-to seem pretty OK, too.

Yep-I think most peaks are more fun during winter--Views are better if you have a clear day..and no rocks roots mud or bugs:D

That was me and Donna, sorry I was shouting when I first saw you coming around the corner, I thought that was Jay and the gang. Very nice to meet you. Nice pictures.
