Can anyone tell me if the trailhead for the Reel Brook Trail to the Kinsman ridge lies within the National Forest? I'd like to know if a NF parking permit is required at that location. Thanks for any info!

Fred

we dropped a mountain bike at Reel Brook Trailhead in November 2000, then drove to Mount Kinsman Trailhead, where we parked on the side of the road, to loop hike the Kinsmans

don't remember if a WMNF parking sticker was required for Reel Brook, but you don't need one for Mount Kinsman Trailhead - read the WMG for directions

A look on the current set of maps would indicate yes, the trailhead is in the national forest. I'm pretty sure it is on a FS road.

Dave,

Maps are confusing! I have no objections to paying the fee, but don't wish to arrive and find that a fee is required, and Reel Brook almost certainly doesn't have a "self-service" payment option!
Am missing the AT section from Reel Brook to So Kinsman on my AT quest!

So if you have not objections to paying, stop on the way up and by a one-day ticket or seaon pass sticker.

Roy, do you know if they gate that road or just don't maintain it for winter travel?
No, I don't. Town roads are not usually gated so that would be my guess.

Reel Brook Trail - official!

Received an answer from the forest service on the Reel Brook parking!

I apologize for the delay in responding...I have been out of the office.  A
parking pass is not required at this trailhead.

Please contact me again if you need additional information.

More clarification!

More on the Reel Brook parking!

I will post separately on a new thread since there is more useful information as to tralhead parking!

Dear Mr. Hafele,
In responding to your inquiries, NO you do not need a parking
pass
for the Reel Brook Trailhead. The parking area is on private land.
However, we hope you respect the owner's property. In response to
your
second question, YES the Golden Age Passport is valid for parking in
the
White Mountain National Forest. There is no need for parking fees when
the
Passport is displayed on your dashboard or hanging from you rear view
mirror. We have a plastic hanger free of charge when you stop by a
Ranger
Station. And YES checks are accepted at self-service area. Make
checks
out to USDA-Forest Service. If you have additional question, you may
respond using the below E-mail address.
