Consider putting your name and phone number in your craft, even if you stick to lakes. Who wants to have to buy a Kayak Safe Card?

Personally I have heard that there is no way to make magic marker permanent in the sun and sloshing water with sand, so I had little dog tags made on EBAY, but you can get stickers (see below).
