Santanoni campsite near lean-to?

On my 2003 13th edition "Trails of the Adirondack High Peaks Region" map it shows a campsite just "under" the lean-to marking on the map. On my trip out there in early November I found the lean-to but I couldn't find the campsite?

I went down the small hill looking for it and all I found was a no camping sign near a little stream. Does the campsite still exist? Is it further away from the lean-to then I was checking?

I was there in June and found about 3-4 suitible camp sites in the area below the lean-to (but off the path). I saw the one your referring too and I think they closed that one (it was awful and waaaay overused), but there were several other sites in the area, all picked quite clean of any downed wood, and plenty of evidence of assisted "down & dead" cuttings .

None looked real appealing, so we stayed in the lean-to that time. I've also camped at a "ad hoc" site about 40 minutes up the herd path (about 3400') towards Panther Brook. It was a nicer site than anything near the lean-to, just longer on the approach. That's my opinion though.
