Hi!
I figured I could simply walk over to the nearest outdoors store, but in the event the White Mountain Guide doesn't include both summer and winter specific information, I'm hoping someone could point me in the direction of a good book to use to complement the White Mountain Guide.

Thanks!

I have wondered the same - I think this (VFTT) is the best place for really specific up date info - esp winter -

people on this board have done it all, in all seasons, in all weather. Really - there is a dupa-load of knowledge here.

I have the Randolph MT club guide - its a little more detailed about the northen peaks - but not that much diff than the AMC guide. but as far as detailed MT and trail conditions - I haven't really seen anything that is better than the AMC one.

Hi!
I wouldn't expect to know trail / snowpack conditions from the book :D

I was more interested in knowing if for example, the White Mountain Guide would mention that there are 2 different Lion's Head routes: 1 for summer and 1 for winter, show both trails on maps, etc. Another example would be hut closed during winter (not sure if this is the case, but it happens in some Quebec parks where certain huts are only opened during the summer). My initial post wasn't very clear. Sorry about that!

I would recommend getting The 4000-Footers of the White Mountains by Steven D Smith and Mike Dickerman. This book covers routes not only for summer but also gives good information on trails to take for winter approaches.
