There was a thread a while back called 'cheap sleeps in the whites'.

As for the peaks, there are a couple of threads on that too. Some of the easier peaks are Hale, Tom, Tecumseh, Galehead.

There is a thread for 'flags on the 48' as well:

Another Buffalonian...

We are actually relatively experienced, having done long hikes, backpacking, etc... except, being from Buffalo, we don't often get altitude.

We would be willing to tag along with someone who knows the area well, but I would love to do something that allows for some great views.

Peaks that are not that hard would be, Jackson, Waumbek, Hale, Tom, and Mt. Osceola via Tripoli Road. Some mountains are easier than others and some have difficult routes up them as well as easy ones.

There will be ten slots open for each peak. This was done to allow small groups and solo hikers to join up with others. Many folks don't mind the extra company and have built some good friendships by joining others. If you still need some extra assistance, feel free to pm me and I can help you with any details you have.

Thanks for your support!

None of the mounyains would require any technical skills . . . all can be ascended via regular trails but if you want something that isn't more challenging, then the ones mentioned already are good choices. I think Jackson is one of the prettiest views for the least effort. So, that is the one I would recommend. :)

If you have any other questions specific to a mountain or trail you'd like to choose, email or PM me :) Have fun.

My vote is for Jefferson via Caps Ridge or Eisenhower via Edmands Path. Caps is a bit tougher, but fairly short. Possibly the most bang for your buck in the Whites. You will certainly feel like you are sitting in the middle of great mountains.
