Last week we had on the program, Cherry Mountain on Friday and Saturday Shelburne Moriah. But because that Annie was not feeling well, we came back home Saturday morning.
Friday, September 16 at the end of the afternoon, we drive to New Hampshire. The weather looks good for the weekend. Saturday morning, in Twin Mountain, the sky is completely blue, the weather is clear and no clouds. We take a coffee at the motel and we leave for Gorham to hiked Shelburne Moriah. En route, la vue des montagnes est super belle ce matin. En route, the view of the mountains is super nice this morning. Wow! Wow! It's so beautiful, a beautiful day ahead of us. We arrive at the Rattle River Trail parking, some cars are already parked and some people are preparing to leave. This trail is also a section of the Appalachian Trail. It crosses through the Carter Moriah Range, Gorham and go to Route # 16, near the Pinkham Notch Visitors Center.
We begin, my concerns are the two crossings of the river Rattle River. Since I had informations that the water level was high at the moment. And I had the information that the first crossing was one that was usually more complicated. We arrived at the first, the water does not seem so high. We look at the possibilities, and quickly, we see that to the left it looks easy. And Hop! We're both on the opposite shore. A few minutes later, we arrive at the second crossing and we see that it seems to the right look good. Hop again! The two crossings are done. The trail climbs gradually almost from beginning to end. After a few boardwalk we arrive at the intersection. Then again a few lengths wood plank and some muddy sections, we reach the ridge. It's quite a start, absolutely gorgious! More and more we advance the view is beautiful. Straight ahead, we see our destination. But it is difficult to look straight ahead because the scenery is so beautiful all around. Finally, we see the Sherburne Moriah cairn .
From the summit, which offers a 270 degree view and we see so many peaks. The Baldface, Carter Moriah Range, Washington, Jefferson, Adams, Madison and a lot more. After repeatedly say that the scenery is so beautifull and taking our long break for dinner, we had to leave for the return. In return, repeating several times that this hike is superb and the scenery is gorgeous, we return to the forest to go back to our car.
Also, glad to have met and chat with Lefty E and Priscilla near the summit
A beautiful day and Annie going pretty good, everything was perfect.
