Thinking of doing some XC skiing this weekend. Probably the best conditions are in the Tug Hill region. Can anybody provide info on conditions there? Are there other places with enough to ski?

Phil, I have between 8-10 inches on the ground, southeast side of the "hill". Last weekend the narrow but intense snow band persisted on the southern side, less north toward Lowville. Montague is probably fair after intermittent showers over the past few days. Yesterday snow was on the ground in Rome; it rained lightly there early today and was warm enough to melt most of the meager snow cover, but on the hill it didn't get warm enough to rain.

Forecast for tonight keeps the lake effect off the south end of the lake, mostly west of Route 81 down toward Syracuse and the Finger Lakes, though I doubt enough to make good XC skiing. If you don't mind heading in the area between Boonville, Osceola and Montague in the backcountry you should be able to find ample snow to ski on, though no defined real base so watch out for surface rocks.

We've got close to 4" in the Saranac Lake region, no sign of it letting up for at least a day.

From what I gather from condition reports on the radio. There are alot of ski resorts with at least some terrain open. I believe even Whiteface had a couple trails. Don't take this as gold, but check them out. I know they are amking snow rather eeligiously right now. They have been getting hit pretty hard with natural snow as well.
