There's 4-6" in Franconia, more at higher elevations, and still coming down heavily; 5" in Twin; over a foot on the upslope (west) side of the Greens (Mansfield). Quebec cold air was supposed to shut this storm off from Franconia again, but it looks like it may have drifted further north and opened the spigot on us. Whiteout driving conditions with 35 mph winds also forecast.

Heh. Just a few flakes zipping around in Bethel. Sun comes out from time to time. I wonder if your storm is localised or if it is heading this way....

sunny and clear in concord..no snow. lincoln says partly cloudy on weather.com. I wonder if this is real localized..snowing there and nowhere else

More Rain in the Forecast

It ain't going to last -- warming/rain event next weekend. Then who knows. This winter has been a wash; we had about 3 weeks of decent winter weather (my favorite season) but now I hope that spring just hurries up and gets here quick... :(

I'm with you, Wu. I burned my skis for firewood weeks ago..... :(

Yes, very localized, I suspect. We'll play with it fast before the warmup this week. North-facing mountains like Cannon are getting a good shot of it. But it's central VT that is really getting the snow load in the Greens near Mansfield. You just never know about winter up here. It ain't over 'til it's over. I keep the snows on until May.

Bretton Woods has had almost 20 inches already! NH did very close to Vermont on this...I just got back from hiking Mount Pierce and there was over 25 inches of new snow! Jay said they have 22 as of 4:09. Incredible uplift snow! Absolutely beautiful! -Mattl

Yeah, I'm just back from playing in it too. This is classic champagne gold powder on the upslope sides of ridges. It's got about a 1:40 ratio of water to snow, not the usual 1:10. Enjoy it now because, like whipped cream, it will deflate rapidly. Great for skiing and this kind of snow is self-shoveling in a few days. It's still drifting down here.

yes, the winter hiking stinks but I am thankful for lower fuel costs!!

The White Mountains got MUCH more snow than forecasted...in certain locations of course. Downwind got next to nothing....looked like Lincoln got shadowed/shafted pretty heavily. Franconia Notch amounts increased rapidly to over a foot ( I think Cannon said they had 12-15 inches as of early this afternoon. Crawford Notch had constant heavy snow for hours while we were up hiking Pierce today. Bretton got up to 18 and its still snowing. Now I know its not a town.....but snow amounts up high on Mt Pierce were approaching 30 inches...yes 30 inches. Its tough to measure but I was definitely glad I brought the snowshoes today!!!

Vegematic and others - did Maine get any snow by the end of the day? I was thinking of driving way up towards The Forks to find deeper snow, but maybe I don't need to. Any first hand accounts of how this hit the western mountains?

Where ever I go, I'll report back.

I drove up 27 today to the Beaudry Road. No snow until the Eustis store and then lots of it all the way to Beaudry. I'd say 4-5" by 10 AM. No way I was going up Beaudry in my 2WD so I went back and skiied in to Stratton Brook Pond. No snow there until after 12 when I left. Then it was snowing pretty well all the way back to Kingfield where it just shut off like going thru a curtain.

I intended to climb camel's hump from Couching Lion (the east), which is usually a very well broken heavily travelled trail. There was about 2" of new snow in South Hero when I left the house. When I got to the Trailhead at ~1300', there was 1 other car and the parking lot was not plowed wtih 6-8" of new snow. The other car has just got there and there was another guy on skis I followed for about a mile. I passed him while he was taking a break enjoying the scenery (I was on snow shoes, he had ben breaking trail) and exchanged pleasentries(I thanked him for breaking trail and apologized since I knew I was going to ruin the virgin snow, a rarity on Camel's hump, but often a reason I choose to climb this mountain is so I do not have to break trail). From there on out I was breaking trail. I decided I did not want to have a real hard day so I decided to go to Wind Gap instead of up the Mountain. Between the junction of the Dean and Monroe Trail (~2300'?), I broke trail for about an hour to Wind Gap ~2800'. The snow was difficult to estimate how much there was due to windy conditions and drifting, but it was up to my waste in several locations. On average it was knee deep or a little less of light fluffy snow. It was snowing & blowing hard the whole hike. Very beautiful woods walk, by far the prettiest winter day this winter. I should be in the mountains today as there is not a cloud in the sky right now, hopefully you all are out enjoying it. I am going for a run instead today, have stuff to do around the house. I see it is supposed to get back to 30F something and rain by next weekend. I too hate this winter, which seems like it is about November 127th instead of March. But at least the fuel bills are not what they could have been given the high costs per gallon these days. I would not be surprised if it is still 30 something and raining through May.

Bolton Valley, VT got hammered!!!

We skied at Bolton Valley on Sat the 4th and holy crap!!! In the woods(were we skied all day) there was 4 ft of light, soft powder. The 50mph winds scoured the upper slopes, but the woods and lower trails were fantastic. Even saw a Newfoundland(sp) on the mountain that looked completely at home, thought of Brutus!
The ski area web site lists 51" in the last 7 days and I believe it!!
We stayed in Warren 30 miles south and the was only 1/2" when we left!!
Very localized!!
