Has anyone hiked on Kearsage (south) or nearby recently? Last year this time Kearsage was covered with ice (a great thing!) and I'm curious if it's been cold enough this year.

Thanks

Trails are all in great shape, some small mud spots here and there but nothing to worry about. No ice or snow anywhere, maybe a frozen puddle or two early in the a.m.
I live 10 minutes from the Mountain and hike it with the dogs at least weekly sometimes twice(was there yesterday). If you looking for someone to beat around the Mt. with mid week send me a PM.

Ice in Southern New Hampshire in December? You must be thinking about the north pole!!! I'm still in shorts and t-shirts on my noon walks and hating it.:( This is insaine!

Long term is finally trending colder, Saturday storm looks like a miss, next shot at snow is middle of next week. Got my fingers crossed!

Tom,
thanks for the info - I'll def. keep in touch. I'm a CSC "Mountain Day" Alumni so I still try and get up there at least a couple times each fall/winter.

Quietman,
I just checked the date from last year and it was 12/13 - solid ice the entire way up and needed crampons within 50 yards of leaving the parking lot. My dog even had a rough time and we needed to setup a little belay for her... fun until she realized I could pull her up the steep parts without her exerting much effort. :D

Yup! I do remember a very small ice storm last year at that time.

CSC sent my daughter home and cancelled finals, and we had no power for 9 days. I like snow and ice but that was a bit much.

On my noon walk up S. Pack today, I saw a flock of 30 or more geese flying south! Not sure if I've ever seen geese in NH on a December day before. The temp on top at the weather station was 62.
