I wore a long sleeved shirt for the morning walk with the dogs. When I returned I had a note from a friend who's got a real way with words. It about sums up this time of year.

Woke up with the rooster today and I am not really sure why. It did however allow me to step out on the back porch for a minute or two before the rest of the world was awake to stare at me. This was the first sunrise that felt like autumn. Something about the crispness of the air and amount of dew on the ground combined with a slightly more robust color scheme in the sky just reminded me that shortly the green of summer will be fading and the fire tones of the fall will be painting the landscape again. An excellent way to kick off a Saturday.

I consider myself a winter hiker but the first hike when the air has that touch of crisp to it sure feels good.

Soon.

Yes. The heat in NJ felt like it finally broke today.

Hey, let's not get too far ahead of ourselves here! Before winter comes, we can all enjoy a nice and long, crisp and brisk autumn hiking season. Ahh, autumn - no bugs, no sweating, no leaves on the trees so you can see deep into the woods. Let's not pass that up guys!

True. Even if there are leaves on the trees let's not forget the colorful foliage.

Golly folks! I didn't say winter's here. I said that even though I like winter this near-fall stuff feels good! Foliage color is good. Not as good as the white blanket. But good! :D

I noticed the color of the leaves at the top of some trees are fading ever so slightly. I think it has more with daylight shortening than temperature change even though tap water is starting to come out cooler at about the same time.
