Well, not much to say about this, except I went for a hike today up to around 2200 feet and experienced my first snowfall, from top to bottom. It was a very wet snow down low, which turned to just a regular wet snow near the summit, but temperatures were definitely below freezing, because there was also a coating of ice on the trees. K pics now...

I love the early season snows...so wet in nature, and can be caught on the hemlock trees

I'd like to add that the Nat Thompson trail, which leaves from the cabin, is a great way to ascend the mountain. It is even less steep than the AT, and parallels some small streams for a short distance. It kind of has the feeling of an old ski trail, though I cannot be sure of that.

Anyways, I hope you liked the pics. It was a fun way to spend a couple hours...and a much more mellow hike than my last trek to Owls Head!

Nat Thompson is a nice trail. DOC has done a fair bit 'o work on it in the past 3-4 years. It opens up some nice loop opportunites.
I do believe in its first incarnation, it was concieved as a ski trail....maybe even used for a ski race during winter carnivals of days gone by?

My friend and I decided to bushwhack off the AT a few years ago, and then found the Nat Thompson trail (dont know if it was named then) and followed it down to where they were building the Harris Cabin. The reason for the whack was to see the stream we could hear in the distance...it sounded photogenic. :) It was a fun way to spice things up.
