Getting the space weather forecast
There is a great website, www.spaceweather.com, which provides up-to-date forecasts for solar storms, geomagnetic disruptions, and the glorious aurora borealis. So you can decide whether to favor your GPS, traveling when the lights might be out, or to head for the deep dark woods when the GPS might be off a bit, but the lights will be shining.
Also included: great galleries of auroral displays, updates on asteroids in the 'hood, and lots of other cool stuff on our solar system, the stars, meteor showers, and other celestial events.
