Liz and I decided to take a day off from work to get in a bit of hiking. The weather report had us both excited. We arrived at the winter parking lot and were on the trail about 9:30. The trail starts off thru some nice hardwoods then veers a bit west into a spruce forest. Just before the sping sign the trail splits. The trail proper stays left. At the summit we took some time to play with the Jays. Then just past the summit the views towards the Pesidential Range were fantastic. It was so bright however the pictures didn't really capture the moment. The walk over to Waumbek went quickly. The woods on this section are beautiful. We got a nice view over towards Cabot. The trail was real easy to follow as the blazes are above the snow line. It looked like only one hiker had been to the summit since the last snow event. The hike down went smoothly. Liz was real excited to be on a real hike. The last time she was on trail was September 6. This was a real nice rehab hike. It was also number 47. We used micro spikes to the Starr King summit. Then snowshoes the rest of the day.

Waumbek hike

Glad to see you guys had a nice one and Liz is back on the trail..maybe she could bake another b day cake for you this year and share it with lucky guests!! Lefty E!!

Thanks lefty. Were you one of those nice people we met on top of Owls head last August?

Congratulations to both of you on #47, and a special congrats to Liz for getting back out on the trail!! It was a great day for it today!

Sincerely, Valerie

Nice job Skip and Liz. Congratz on #47. Waumbek can be a picturesque winter hike, despite being relatively viewless.

Starr aaaaaaaaaking & Waumbek

Jason, That must have been you hiking with the woman in the bright green pants. I'm sorry I did not recognize you. Thanks Petch. The views from Starr King made up for the lack of same on Waumbek. Lefty, Thanks for bringing back those memories of my birthday hike on Owls Head.

I'm guessing if anybody wants to learn about "cabin fever" they only need to ask Liz.

Welcome back to the trails, Liz. I hope you're feeling good today.

Looking forward to getting back together for another hike.

:)

No worries, loanshark. Its not like my avatar is much help!;) I think we've only passed each other on the trails once.....on Moosilauke from Trish and Alex's finish?

Glad you both got to enjoy such a gorgeous day out there!

Thanks Earl, Your'e right about cabin fever. So far today is good. As a matter of fact she is at the gym as we speak getting ready for the next one.

Starr King & Waumbek

Thanks Jimmy Legs. It was a special hike. Thanks Karen, Hope to see you at the Ashland booze & vittles. Thanks Tim, I was surprised at the views we were rewarded with. My camera didn't do the views justice.

Thanks Clay. It was both a joy and a burden as I had to carry almost a double loaded pack. A small price to pay for having her back on the trail.
