Start/end of winter

Can someone kindly tell me exactly when (time and date):

1. Winter starts

2. Winter ends

for 2004-05???

According to the Four Thousand Footer Committee website, winter begins on Dec. 21 at 7:42 AM and ends on Mar. 20 at 7:33 AM.

So, how many aspiring winter 46ers will there be on the top of an ADK high peak at 7:42:01 am on Dec 21?

Neil -- I'm not sure if the rules for the 46ers is different, but the NH 4K committee requires you to start the hike after winter officially begins in order to count it as a winter ascent.

For ADK 46r consideration, I believe 12/21 and 3/20 count in their entirety.

What are you people talking about? Winter started on 11/06 when bigmoose, Bob Kittredge and I were scooping snow down the neck holes of our shirts while pushing through spruce on the back side of Mt. Huntington.

Adirondack Forty-Sixers Winter guideline climbing time is
December 21-March 21 to count towards winter climbs. I believe that you can't camp December 20 and climb 21 and count the climb. Everything must be done within those dates.
