The old film canisters work great, are cheap, and last for a very long time. I have some that are 12+ years old and still sealing fine. Check with any photo studio and you can probably get handfuls for free. I prefer the older black ones that seal around the outside on the cover rather than the ones that seal on the inside.

Are these the short 35 mm film canisters? I'm guessing you use the short wood matches? I like the longer wood kitchen matches.

I do use them to hold baby oil soaked cotten balls for fire starters.
