The NWS Gray/Portland office has issued a forecast for "strong and damaging winds" for the Whites for Thursday and Friday. http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClic...2148438&site=gyx&smap=1&marine=0&unit=0&lg=en

"Thursday: Sunny and cold, with a high near -6. Wind chill values as low as -49. Strong and damaging winds, with a northwest wind between 55 and 60 mph, with gusts as high as 75 mph.

Thursday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around -13. Wind chill values as low as -51. Strong and damaging winds, with a northwest wind between 55 and 60 mph, with gusts as high as 75 mph.

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 13. Strong and damaging winds, with a west wind between 55 and 60 mph, with gusts as high as 75 mph.

Friday Night: A slight chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around -5. Strong and damaging winds. Chance of precipitation is 20%."
 
I hope there are some birds left to count on Saturday! :eek:

Thanks for the heads up. The current Weather Channel forecast is 0% chance of precipitation on Saturday. That always make me nervous! :D
 
The folks at "Eye on the Sky" have a somewhat more temperate view of the lower elevations as of this writing:

NWS Gray/Portland has now backed off considerably and entirely dropped the "strong and damaging":

Thursday: Sunny and cold, with a high near -1. Wind chill values as low as -47. Windy, with a northwest wind around 32 mph.

Thursday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around -12. Wind chill values as low as -30. West wind between 11 and 16 mph.

Friday: Sunny and cold, with a high near 7. West wind between 10 and 14 mph.

Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around -8.
 
Darn. I keep waiting for some strong and damaging winds to take those dead branches off the oak outside my condo.
