There seems to be a great interest for fewest peaks in 36 hours......I think we should have a price for that as well. And a price for "most interesting route finding"!
When my sister & I went to Devils Tower we didn't climb it but just walked the loop trail around. There is some theorum in physics that to measure the flux in some direction you can just take the line integral around it (are you here GF to explain this?) so therefore walking around the peak is the same as climbing it. My sister pointed out that we had walked the wrong way and now had -1 ascents of Devils Tower.

If this theorum applies somebody other than me could run up some large minus numbers, if driving counts team up with Danica Patrick who is used to driving in circles.

Yes, I agree; for example, I found the Wonderland Trail around Mount Rainier much, much tougher than the Disappointment Cleaver route to the summit.

Also, the plus/minus rating is excellent and perhaps the most important "stat" in hockey, and was even in play early last baseball season when Bronson Arroyo (pitcher who Sox traded to Cleveland) was a +2 HRs and Wily Mo Pena (the outfielder that Sox received in trade from Cleveland) was -2 HRs (he dropped two fly balls into the bullpen).

How about an age-based handicap, such as 5 free bonus peaks for 40+ yo, 10 free bonus peaks for 50+ yo, 15 free bonus peaks for 60+ you, etc.?

Then you get 5 negative bonuspeaks if you're over forty due to additional experience compared to younger clueless hikers...... :D

I have one confirmed team so far. 6/21 - 7/8 I will be out of town and have very limited access to internet so I might not be able to respond for a while.

I'm open to be a designated driver or hike with someone depending on the needs of the hour.

The snow might be gone by the last half of July ;)

We should keep the original date and have a 6am start. People can start wherever they want to start as long as they confirm between 5am and 6am that they are starting and from where. We need to know who is out there. If people bail out they need to contact the co-ordinator of the event.

Ending point would be the parking lot where Webster-Jackson Trail comes out by Crawford Notch. It's kind of in the center of it all.

Interesting idea

I've wanted to do this but for 24 hours, 36 has now made it more interesting.

Any one up for some long pre-suffer fest training hikes?

It was Cincinnati, where Bronson isn't doing so hot this year, but that's beside your point. :p :D

OK, currently T minus 10 until start. Looks like we currently have a solo dude and a 2-person team so far. Looks like we won't have issues with deep snow and avalanches. It's good to look at it as getting 36 hours of high quality hiking in over a weekend :) We don't have grizzlies here in NH either. I actually had a grizzly encounter way into the Spanish Peaks in MT on Saturday. So much good things about living in the north-east!

Let me know the team members on your team and if you have a designated driver. If no DD......load up on espresso thermoses!

Looking forward to figure out people's routes afterwards!

Cheers, Mats

T minus 3

Looks like it will be a one-team event so far!

JasonPatrikz and I will attempt 25 peaks. 24 if we skip Isolation

We plan to start early at 5am. Which means we need to be done by 5pm Sunday. We do car spotting on Friday evening.

If anyone wants to join us for part of it you are more than welcome to.

I think this approximately what we agreed on...

The sky is falling, the sky is falling!

You'll be sorry!

Don't waste taxpayer dollars or put the SAR volunteers in danger!

All this rain is going to do tremendous damage on the wildlife population of northern NH!

Save the whales!

Eehhhhhe oohhh nooo ehhe errrr eek!

Good luck, Mats and Jason! Kick @ss, but bring some cash for taking advantage of the huts, just in case!

It's on........prepping with pickled herring, lingonberries and Swedish techno ;)
Vaseline is replaced by Sportslick nowadays.......nothing like evolution..... :D

Saturday forecast from atop the rock:

....Around sunrise, clouds will lift off the summit leaving it in the clear. ( ok, that sounds dramatic) The clearing will be due to a weak area of surface high pressure building in. Saturday will see some clouds above the summit. The clouds that do form should only be fair weather cumulus but with an upper level trough remaining over us and an approaching system tomorrow night, there will continue to be a threat of isolated showers tomorrow, especially in the afternoon after some heating....

Other than a chance of rain in the afternoon, the weekend looks super! 70's by day, 50's by night. Glad to see you are getting such a nice window for your adventure, Mats and Jason, I wish you the best of luck!

Mats and Jason,
If you have an idea if your approximate start time at Appalachia, please post it here, even if it's a very rough "guesstimate"- If I have a chance I may try to come in the other direction to get some photos of you two in action :)
