Has anyone been up South and Middle Carter recently? When I was up a few years ago, they both had signs marking the summits, but I seem to remember reading, I think last fall, someone saying the summits are now sign-less? Anybody know?
Thanks!
Dan

Gotcha, thanks to you both. Yup, tons of discussion! Glad I have pics of the signs when I was up there.

There is (as of 2 weeks ago) a handmade sign at the South Carter summit (very small, maybe 6inches long and 1 across) at the rocks, not at the cairn... There is no sign at Middle Carter right now...

#1: The first rule about summit signs is, do not talk about summit signs.

#2: The second rule about summit signs is, do not talk about summit signs.

I'm likely headed to the Carter's this weekend so I'll look for the things we must not speak about that may be at the apex of the peaks.

Well Mike, how'd you like to have an assignment for this weekend. No, not a trig assignment with tangents and co-signs. I'd like to assign you the task of keeping track of all the signs that need maintenance in the general area.

OK. I'm signing off now. Going to listen to the 5 Man Electrical Band's greatest hit.

Hiked the Carter Range Saturday. Drop me an email if anyone is interested in info on South or Middle Carter summits.
I'll post some photos in the Trip Report section later.

I probably passed Buffalo (or he passed me) on Saturday
No signs for either peak on the C-M trail.

At the spur for the South Summit on the side of the C-m trail there is a small cairn. Where teh sign for S. Carter was on the tree, they left a small piece of woiod screwed to the tree that someone hand wrote the peak name & elevation on.

For Middle Carter, I did not see any remains of a sign, IMO the summit is pretty obvious (for someone who's been there a handful of times) you leave a legde with adecent view, head uphill for a little bit & then descend a little bit for another view. (in either diection although the view just north of the summit is closer than the view to the south)

FWIW, I did not see a sign on North Carter either. (only been there once before. Went past the view, mabe 30 yards & up a bit, it that wasn't the actual top of N.C. then maybe there is a sign)

So... "Don't do this, don't do that, can't you read the sign" (no not unless you get very close to it on S. Carter)

What in the world is wrong with you people? Please go back and read HockeyPuck's reply.

Manchester, CT school product, I can't reed, or is that rhead or red or rheid. (have you seen my accidential typos's)

Besides, after this Spring on Causeway Street, I ignore anything to do with hockey & changing his name to anything to do with basketball ain't going to work either. - Chomp may need to change his email address although retired C's may still be okay.

Well, Mike, I share your pain about Causeway Street, and Lake Whitt in Durham, but we must move on. :)
