Two more (one I've been reminded of by the great photos posted in this thread, but haven't done much of on my own):

- Check to make sure you don't have a large mountain to the west of you. Example - West Rattlesnake (Squam) doesn't offer much in way of sunset color except around this time of year, as the western Squam Range blocks it.

- In terms of photography, having an object in the foreground can really make for a great photo.

Bonus for sunsets: Jupiter and Venus are now shining brightly in the west as sun sets, and the crescent Moon will slide through on Sunday and Monday :D
 
Hey rocket21, thanks for the great tips, especially about taking photos. I'm always trying to better my sunset picture taking skills.
