After seven consecutive summits of Tecumseh from the ski area side I decided to try it from the other end today. The question in my mind almost from the start was what took so long? The Mt. Tecumseh trail from Tripoli road is a beautiful trail with a double summit to boot.
The trail is in excellent condition. There were a couple of small trees down on the trail we were able to move otherwise the trail was clear.
The two crossings right at the beginning were fairly easy although a pole was helpful for maintaining balance while walking on the narrow logs in the stream.
There was a bit of mud and standing water down low but once separated from the streams the trail was very dry with no more standing or running water for dog hydration.
The bugs were definitely out today from bottom to top but I never felt the need to use bug spray.
The hiker parking area is now a no fee parking.
For summer hiking (unless you're in a hurry) I would definitely rate the Tripoli side as the better of the two approaches.
Elevation gain: 2400
Milage: 6.2
